
The
Swiss Historical Village Museum presents the unique story of the founding
of New Glarus in 1845 and traces the Swiss colony's growth into
a dairy farming community that continues to keep alive its ethnic
heritage.
The
museum, in the heart of "America's Little Switzerland,"
is owned and operated by the New Glarus Historical Society, Inc.
The society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation
of artifacts, records and family histories of the Swiss immigrants.
The society is affiliated with the Wisconsin State Historical
Society.

The Swiss Historical
Village Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week,
May 1 through Oct. 15.
Groups and bus
tours are welcome. Free parking is available adjacent to the
museum.

$9.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Discounts are available
for AAA members and tour groups of 10 or more who have made
an advance reservation and pay at least 2 weeks in advance.

New Glarus is about
25 minutes southwest of Madison, WI, on Highway 69.
The Swiss Historical
Village is on the west side of New Glarus, along Highway 39. If
entering New Glarus from Highway 69, go eight blocks west (on 6th Ave.) and
the museum will be on your left. Go around the block -- the entrance
is on the south side at 612 7th Ave. There is a parking lot adjacent to
the museum.
If traveling from the Chicago area, the
easiest route is to exit I-90 at Beloit, take Highway 81 west to Monroe and
then Highway 69 north to New Glarus.
